Waste and War
Circa 1995
Before the years of sadder sights
And fading blacks and browning whites
There were skies so blue you could swim to the moon
And grasses green enough for peace
I once was young and new to most
My eyes so wide and conscience free
The monotony I today befriend
Was yesterday unknown to me
Before the doors through which we've come
And all the hands of time that turned
Our god of heaven watched with pride
As all his children lived and learned
We long ago were still to come
Our greatest days were those ahead
But now I offer hopefully
Has all been seen and all been said?
Before the taste of waste and war
And anarchistic times so poor
We lived and loved and all let live
Behold the less and make it more
